Record UK Heatwave: First Time 35°C Reached in May, June, July Same Year
The UK has recorded an unprecedented run of 35°C-plus temperatures across three consecutive months for the first time in weather history, with eight days exceeding 34°C in 2026 alone.
Historic Temperature Milestone
Temperatures of 35°C or higher have now been recorded in May, June and July of the same year for the first time in the UK weather record, as heatwave conditions continue through the weekend and into next week. The UK has now recorded a record eight days with temperatures exceeding 34°C, surpassing the previous record held by 1976 and 2020.
Amber and yellow heat health alerts issued by the UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) remain in place across large parts of England until Sunday, with temperatures expected to remain widely well above average across much of the UK over the coming days. Areas of central and southern England and Wales are expected to see several more consecutive days of temperatures above 30°C through the weekend, with the focus of the heat gradually shifting towards western parts of the UK.
What This Means for Visitors and Residents
If you're planning to visit or recently relocated to the UK, be prepared for exceptional summer heat. Stay hydrated, use sun protection, and follow local health authority guidance during heat alerts. Check with your accommodation provider about cooling facilities, and monitor NHS guidance for signs of heat-related illness.
