UK Fuel Prices Drop Sharply — Petrol Now 151p, Diesel 167p Per Litre
Pump prices have fallen significantly in late June, with petrol down to 151.02p and diesel to 167.12p per litre, bringing relief after April's conflict-driven spike but still well above pre-2026 levels.
UK drivers are seeing lower prices at the pump as fuel costs continue their retreat from spring highs. Official government data for the week of 29 June 2026 shows petrol at 151.02p per litre and diesel at 167.12p, marking a sustained decline from the sharp increases triggered by the Middle East conflict earlier this year.
How prices have moved
In mid-April 2026, petrol reached 158.17p per litre and diesel hit 192.14p, with diesel commanding a premium of nearly 34p over petrol. Since then, both fuels have trended downward, though diesel remains 41p higher than before the conflict began in February 2026.
Fuel duty has remained unchanged at 52.95p per litre throughout the period, with VAT at 20 percent. The government's 5p fuel duty cut stays in place until August, then rises by 1p in September, a further 2p in December, and another 2p in March 2027.
What it means for you
If you drive in the UK — whether commuting to work, running errands, or exploring the country — fuel is likely one of your largest regular expenses. The recent drop offers modest relief, though prices remain elevated compared to 2025 levels.
For expats paid in foreign currencies and sending money to the UK, or those earning in pounds, transport costs still consume a larger share of household budgets than a year ago. Shopping around between stations can save 10–20p per litre; since February 2026, all UK retailers must report prices within 30 minutes under the Fuel Finder scheme, and prices can vary by 20p or more per litre between nearby stations.
