St. Dominic's Fair Returns to Gdańsk July 25–August 16, 2026
One of Europe's oldest open-air markets transforms Gdańsk's Old Town for three weeks with over 1,000 stalls, street performances, and traditional crafts. Free entry.
The 766th edition of St. Dominic's Fair will take place from July 25 to August 16, 2026, bringing one of Poland's largest cultural and trade events to the historic heart of Gdańsk. Dating back to 1260 when Pope Alexander IV granted the Dominican Order permission to hold a fair, this vibrant three-week festival blends tradition with modern festivity, attracting over a million visitors from around the globe.
What to Expect
Over 1,000 stalls stretch across the streets of Gdańsk, each booth bursting with unique crafts, antiques, jewelry, and art. The air buzzes with the sounds of lively music, street performers, and the chatter of excited visitors. The aroma of delicious street food wafts through the air—fresh pierogi, smoked cheeses, and succulent kielbasa, along with treats from around the world. The opening ceremony is scheduled for July 26, when the mayor of Gdańsk will hand over the keys to the city gates to merchants at the doorstep of the Artus Court, with genre scenes depicting Fair Miracles and a parade of dancers, acrobats, and historical figures.
The program includes open-air concerts, street theatre, exhibitions, and family-friendly activities throughout the day and evening. Be sure to try Goldwasser, a traditional Gdansk vodka with real gold flakes. Also, keep an eye out for amber, the Baltic gold, renowned in this region.
Practical Information for Visitors
The fair is free to attend and spread across central pedestrian areas, within walking distance of the main railway station. Book your stay early! Gdansk fills up quickly during the fair. The event runs across the Main Town and Old Town streets, making it easily accessible for both tourists and residents. If you're planning to visit Gdańsk in late July or August, this is an unmissable opportunity to experience Polish tradition, pick up handmade souvenirs, and enjoy street food in one of Poland's most beautiful cities.
