Poland's Economy Grows 3.5% in Q1 2026, Outpacing EU Peers
Preliminary GDP data released June 1 shows Poland's economy expanded 3.5% year-on-year in the first quarter of 2026, maintaining its position as one of Europe's fastest-growing economies.
Poland continues to outperform its European neighbors economically, with preliminary data from Statistics Poland (GUS) showing non-seasonally adjusted GDP increased by 3.5% year-on-year in the first quarter of 2026, the government statistical office announced on June 1, 2026.
Domestic Demand Drives Growth
Domestic demand remained the most important component, contributing 3.5 percentage points to economic growth, with household consumption adding 2.0 percentage points and public consumption contributing 1.2 percentage points. However, investment is growing much more slowly than at the end of 2025 and construction remains under pressure.
The data shows Poland continuing to significantly outpace the broader EU, where recent Eurostat figures point to GDP rising by around 1.5% over the past year. This keeps Poland among the fastest-growing major economies in the European Union, though growth has slowed from a revised 4.1% in the fourth quarter of 2025.
Uneven Sectoral Performance
The weakest figures were recorded in construction, which saw gross value added fall by 4.5% year-on-year, while financial and insurance activities declined by 3.4%. This indicates that GDP growth was not evenly distributed across the economy.
What This Means for Foreign Residents
Strong economic growth typically translates into a robust job market, which is good news if you're seeking employment or considering a career move to Poland. The consumer-driven expansion also suggests stable demand in the services sector where many expats work. However, slower investment growth could mean some infrastructure or development projects may take longer to materialize. Overall, Poland's economic outperformance reinforces its position as one of Central Europe's most dynamic destinations for foreign professionals and entrepreneurs.
