Kraków Film Festival Returns May 31-June 7 with 250+ International Films
Poland's oldest film festival showcases documentary, animation, and short films from around the world. Oscar-qualifying event runs in cinemas and online through June 19.
The 66th Kraków Film Festival (KFF) will run from May 31 to June 7, 2026 in cinemas across Kraków, with online screenings available via the KFF VOD platform from June 5-19. As Poland's oldest and one of Europe's longest-running festivals dedicated to documentary and short films, KFF is one of only five FIAPF-accredited documentary and short film festivals worldwide and qualifies films for Oscar consideration in multiple categories.
What to Expect
The festival will screen over 250 films from Poland and abroad across competitive and non-competitive sections, including international documentary features, short films (narrative, animation, and documentary under 30 minutes), and music documentaries. Screenings take place at historic venues including Kino Pod Baranami, the Nowa Huta Cultural Centre, and a special outdoor screen on the riverbank below Wawel Castle. The programme also includes exhibitions, concerts, open-air screenings, and meetings with filmmakers.
Special sections this year include Focus on Ireland, Docs+Science, Short Matters, and Docs4Teens. The festival will honor French animation master Jean-François Laguionie with the Dragon of Dragons lifetime achievement award, featuring a retrospective of his work and a master class open to attendees.
Access for Foreign Residents
All international competition films feature English subtitles, making the festival highly accessible to non-Polish speakers. Online screenings via KFF VOD are geo-restricted to Poland, so foreign residents with Polish internet connections can stream the full programme from June 5-19 from home. Individual screening tickets and festival passes are available through the official website at krakowfilmfestival.pl. If you're interested in documentary and short-form cinema, this is one of the most prestigious platforms in Europe to discover new voices and award-winning work.
