Canada Dental Care Plan opens 2026–2027 applications; renewal deadline already passed
The 2026–2027 benefit year of the Canadian Dental Care Plan began July 1, 2026, with new applications opening June 2. Existing members who missed the June 1 renewal deadline have lost coverage and must re-apply with a coverage gap.
The federal Canadian Dental Care Plan (CDCP) shifted to its new benefit cycle on July 1, 2026, but administrative deadlines and the two-phase application window created a gap for thousands of Canadians who missed the renewal cutoff.
The upcoming CDCP benefit year runs from 2026 to 2027 and provides coverage from July 1, 2026, to June 30, 2027. The next round of applications is set to begin on Tuesday, June 2, for Canadians who want to sign up for the federal dental plan. However, if you already have CDCP coverage, make sure to renew your coverage as the renewal deadline is on June 1.
Following the launch in May 2025, Canadians aged 18 to 64 who don't have private dental insurance are be able to apply for the Canadian Dental Care Plan (CDCP) across all provinces in 2026-2027! This extension is huge as it keeps access to affordable dental care for millions of Canadians who previously had to pay out of pocket or go without essential dental treatments.
Eligibility and Coverage Requirements
You don't have access to private dental insurance, including through your employer, a family member's benefits, pension plan, a professional or student organization, or a plan purchased from an insurance or benefits company; You and your spouse or, if applicable, common-law partner must have filed your tax returns in Canada in order for your family income to be assessed; Your adjusted family net income is less than $90,000; You're a Canadian resident for tax purposes.
The renewal window runs each spring and closes around June 1, with the new benefit year starting July 1. Those who missed renewal must now apply fresh with a potential coverage gap until processing completes.

Apply online at Canada.ca/dental. Note that you must file your previous year's tax return and obtain a Notice of Assessment before applying. International students and recent arrivals may not qualify in their first year if they have not filed Canadian taxes yet.
